Cookie and Analytics Notice
The site uses a small first-party cookie set for consent state and, when you accept, Google Analytics 4 for aggregate traffic measurement. It does not run advertising or cross-site tracking. This page describes what is set, what is not, and how you change your decision.
Your analytics choice
Analytics are off by default. On your first visit a banner asks whether you want to accept analytics or continue without them. Whatever you choose is remembered on this device until you clear the cookie or change it here.
Your analytics choice
Current setting on this device: Not decided yet. You can change it anytime.
Cookies we use
Consent-state cookie. A single first-party value stored in your browser's localStorage under the key anxietyresearch.consent.analytics. It records only granted, denied, or absence-of-value (undecided). It is not sent to Google or any other processor and does not identify you.
Google Analytics 4 cookies (only after you accept). When you click "Accept analytics" the Google tag (measurement ID G-EGSF0SBNSK) writes two first-party cookies on the anxietyresearch.org domain:
_ga. Google Analytics client identifier. Expiry: two years from last activity. Purpose: distinguishing unique browsers to count sessions and pageviews. First-party._ga_EGSF0SBNSK. Google Analytics session identifier for this specific property. Expiry: two years from last activity. Purpose: session state. First-party.
If you decline analytics, neither cookie is written. If you later change your decision to accept, both cookies begin on the visit after the change.
Aggregate event measurement. When you click a link to another Shrink Network site, the site sends network_journey_out (destination site, campaign label, and the page you clicked from) and a matching network_journey_in event to the destination site's analytics property. Site search sends only the query length and result count, never the words typed. A missing page sends only the missing address. All of this runs on the same consent gate as pageviews. If you declined analytics, nothing is sent.
Cross-domain measurement within The Shrink Network. After you accept analytics, links from this site to other Shrink Network sites carry a short _gl URL parameter so Google Analytics can count a visit that spans two network sites as one session. It uses the same pseudonymous _ga identifier described above and sets no additional cookie on this site. It is limited to Shrink Network domains and doesn't run if you decline analytics.
What we don't do
We don't set advertising cookies. We don't run advertising personalization signals through Google Analytics; ad-storage and ad-personalization are set to denied at the Google Consent Mode level regardless of your analytics choice. We don't sell reader data. We don't share it with data brokers. We don't fingerprint visitors.
Third-party cookies
We do not knowingly load third-party advertising cookies, social-network trackers, or cross-site tracking pixels. The only cross-site measurement is the consented Shrink Network cross-domain measurement described above, which is limited to network sites. Embedded fonts and content delivery network assets may set technical cookies required to deliver those assets; these do not track browsing across sites.
How to control cookies in your browser
- Change your analytics decision using the buttons at the top of this page.
- Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies or all cookies in settings.
- Privacy extensions and tracker-blocking browsers (uBlock Origin, Brave, Firefox Strict mode) further restrict what loads.
- Clearing site data in your browser resets the consent-state cookie and any Google Analytics cookies; the banner will appear again on your next visit.
Clearing or blocking cookies does not limit access to site content.
Global Privacy Control
The site honors Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser exposes navigator.globalPrivacyControl === true on your first visit, we treat that as a declined analytics decision automatically. No banner is shown, no Google Analytics cookies are written, and no analytics events are sent. If you want to opt in later you can still do so using the buttons at the top of this page.
